Want to browse history in an easy and visual way? Now you can!
We recently made some changes to our home page on Timelines.com. The intent behind these is to enable browsing of key historical topics and some of their major associated events.
The top part of our home page is still focused on major events in history that happened over the prior week. To make this more explicit, we have aptly titled it “This Week in History.” (We tried to think of a more creative/witty/fun title, but nothing trumped TWiH).
The next section includes 11 historical topics, each supported by six key events (with thumbnail photos), a link to those specific events and a link to a page that covers all the events of this topic.
Here’s a screen shot of three of the topics: Civil Rights Movement, Colonial America and Disasters:
The other topics that we think will be interesting to our users include: Battles of the Civil War (and we have several hundred of them), Assassinations (starting with the Julius Caesar’s assassination, “Et tu Brute?”), Great Sports Moments (like the “Thrilla in Manila” and Miracle on Ice: USA defeating USSR in Olympic Hockey), Battles of the American Revolution , Battles of the Crusades, Battles of World War 1 and World War 2, and Famous Deaths (including Elvis Presley’s death, Adolf Hitler’s Suicide and Michael Jackson’s death to name a few).
We hope these changes will help people to browse the major topics and events of history.
Let us know what you think, and if you have any suggestions be sure to give us a shout!
